Ava S. in Portrait Photography
Artist Statement: I'm trying to make images that are weird or funny. Something that makes me smile. I have a long way to go but I am getting there!
Starting to think about my role as a photographer. Also getting more interested in using flash to create weird images.
I really liked his street view portraits. It makes like the idea of portraits again. I love how unspecific it is. Its like Haha look it's a PORTRAIT!!!
Having fun with shininess!!! Wanted to created something like Michael Wolf's street view portraits. It's like HAHA Look it's a portrait of my MOM!!!
I wanted to go out in the world and have a little fun. Weird environments making weird pictures. Tried to catch my subjects in awkward/unintentional poses.
I was very inspired by Alan Resnick in high school and I think his influence on my work is still present. I was looking at his work a lot in the beginning of the semester. His photography shows the normal things people do in a silly light. Humanity is so weird in a charming way! I think that is the biggest take away for me.
I think Alan Resnick's influence is present in this photo. Some sort of disconnect between the subject and what is going on in the moment.
Maybe I am influenced here to. I feel like there's something weird going on in this picture but there's actually not.
Inspiration: The Adventures of Guille and Belinda by Alessandra Sanguinetti
I was interested in the playful relationship the subjects had with the photographer. It's fulfilling to see that the subjects are participants in the work and are having fun at the same time. Stared at these for a while right before doing prompt 5.
I explored setting up a little scene in a room. I learned how the use of the curtain in the back heavily influenced how we perceive the subject's role in the environment. I wanted to work with my subject in an equal way and have fun.
I am trying to incorporate more elements in my photos to create interest and the peculiarity that I strive for. Here I created a photo with multiple cohesive elements. My main focus right now is how I can continue to do this in more interesting ways.
